Old Knotty Knobs

(SOLD)
Here's a truly unique cribbage board.  The combination of the grain and the knots suggest a human face which somehow reminded us of "His Knobs." Of course, seeing faces in an inanimate piece of maple is called pareidolia and the phenomena is fun to read about.

Since we started making our Big Boards in early summer 2021, we've had quite a few comments and requests for smaller, bark-free cribbage boards.  Friends and customers have asked for a board larger than the teeny, tiny traditional boards but not as large as a two-foot long Standard Cabin Board.

So, we began buying various types of milled lumber from Intermountain Wood Products here in Idaho Falls.  Thus far, we've brought home rustic cuts of alder, cherry and maple.

"Old Knotty Knobs" was cut from a massively charismatic 10-foot piece of rustic maple.  We think this particular board has the most "character" of any we've processed out of our milled lumber purchases.

Normally, the peg lines are spaced farther apart.  However, with this board we altered and tightened our normal spacing so that the full grain and knot patterns would remain intact and unmarked.

We're really not sure of this board's value so our price of $50 is very tentative.  We might list it on eBay to see what the larger market thinks of its value.  We're open to offers on our price.  Thanks for reading and Happy Cribbage.

Note on "Knobs:" His Knobs is more commonly spelled "His Nobs" by today's cribbage players.  However, back in the 1841 Edition of "The Old Curiosity Shop" by one Charles Dickins, it is spelled "Knobs."  You can read more about "nobs" and "knobs" here:
